How much I made & spent from the Amazon Ad Challenge

Since Covid, I paused my in-person activities and pivoted to learning online marketing better. I knew how to post online, but I sure hadn’t learned to sell online. I tried a blog tour that flopped. I dabbled with FB and even Twitter and Instagram ads, but was floundering just stabbing in the dark. I’d throw my money out there and get views & likes I have to pay for from people I still suspect might not be real people because their profiles are empty. (I could be wrong, they could be people; I didn’t get a sale, and I’ll admit that could happen because of my lack of knowledge in this arena anyhow.)

Enter Amazon. I love supporting local businesses and small businesses (I am one!), but Amazon sure has its perks sometimes. A few months ago, I tried Bryan Cohen’s Amazon Ad challenge, where he step by step walks through setting up multiple Amazon Ads and what the next steps are to keep growing it. And here’s how that’s going for me so far…

MonthSalesCost
end of April$1.10
May$10.70$6.38
June$3.04$33.21 (this was mostly for May ads)
Total$13.74$40.69
Overall a loss of $26.95, which isn’t ideal but is well worth the knowledge I’ve gained

A few caveats to these numbers; they’re not quite Accounting-approved, final-version numbers, they’re more rough and in process than that. I’m still waiting on a small invoice from Amazon (about $7?) and I think there are a couple sales not accounted for (about $3?), plus there’s a delay in my distributor reporting these sales so there could theoretically be a tad more. Overall, this gives the gist though.

You can see I haven’t made a profit on Amazon Ads yet. I’m still learning, and I might not even fully “get there” until the next book that has a broader market. But, I made sales to strangers online more than I have through any other avenue so far. Progress. I don’t always have much to report. A lot of what I’m doing is behind the scenes and slow going while juggling a day job. Thank you for your support as I continue to pursue my dream and put more stories into the world!
