They say the ghost of a soul travels with the Trenchers, strikes deep into their bones. Like a curse.”
I groan. “Fairy tales…You’re just trying to scare me out of here. It’s not working.”
~~ Excerpt from Unfixed
I’m gonna say something real controversial here: I love the TV show LOST. Don’t get me started on the ending. Its depth of character and its twisty plot, that everything doesn’t tie up in a tidy bow….like how could I not?
One beautiful refrain of the story is the “Man of faith, Man of science”. Those who buy into the mystery and those who look for something logical instead. (Both the characters and the viewers.)
And in its own way, Unfixed has some similarities in its unlikely duo: Max looking for logic, something that makes sense as he encounters things he can’t explain, while the secretive Fancy teases him with all the outlandish rumors. And it’s never as clean-cut as just one being correct…right?
There are quite a few liars in Unfixed, too (you don’t have to go further than the first line of the first chapter to know that.)
I love how some are more or less predictable, more or less trustworthy, and more or less loyal. There are liars you can trust, and honest characters you can’t, and everything in between. And the story begins with Max and Fancy both knowing the other is lying, and not sure why or how. The banter between them as they dig into the story is just perfection.
I’m excited for you to meet these characters as they dig into the magic, as they look for an explanation, and as they journey together through this tale.
