Building the right partnerships

One of the things I love most about being an author is being able to partner with and support other creatives. When you buy my book, you’re not just funding my creative work; you’re funding the artists I partner with – and in the future will partner with.

When you do creative work, don’t go it alone. Find your people. That doesn’t mean it comes quickly. It’ll take time.

The last book I published, I found an illustrator to partner with. There were others I worked with who helped, who were the right fit for what I needed that moment, but weren’t the right fit longterm.

So publishing this current book, it could have felt (and sometimes did feel) like I was back to the drawing board. Starting from scratch. But as I dug through my notes from last launch, it was a comfort to see all the things I needed to figure out that time that I just had this time. I’d done the work, so it came naturally this go-round. It’s important to look back and remember where you’ve come from, how far you’ve come.

This time, I found an ebook formatter and cover designer I am thrilled to partner with, and hope to again and again. I’m sure there will be others involved that I’ll add to that list, as well as some who worked for now but won’t work ongoing. I’ll see who that is with time, and there will be new people I’ll need to find next time.

It’s amazing to be on this journey and partner with creatives. It’s great to spend my money on others creative work and realizing they’re doing the same, and its this cycle of supporting beauty in the world that I am honored to be part of.

Partnerships matter, but they come with time. Which means next time it’ll get even better…right? 🙂
